So, when we look at a sample of a simple toy catalog, we are seeing the distant echo of this ancient intellectual tradition, the application of the principles of classification and order not to the world of knowledge, but to the world of things. It feels less like a tool that I'm operating, and more like a strange, alien brain that I can bounce ideas off of. To me, it represented the very antithesis of creativity. The first real breakthrough in my understanding was the realization that data visualization is a language. And the fourth shows that all the X values are identical except for one extreme outlier. Worksheets for math, reading, and science are widely available. We can show a boarding pass on our phone, sign a contract with a digital signature, and read a book on an e-reader. A satisfying "click" sound when a lid closes communicates that it is securely sealed. The monetary price of a product is a poor indicator of its human cost. These capabilities have applications in fields ranging from fashion design to environmental monitoring.
